New headquarters

CRH is a regional, national and international organisation and the leader in building materials. CRH owns many leading companies in building products and their distribution. The company has a new European headquarters in Amsterdam. Commissioned by Click BV, who realised the complete electrical installation, Helvar, in close cooperation with the parties involved, fitted the modern building with a sustainable lighting management system.

Lighting

Virtually all the lighting in the building is (DALI) dimmable, allowing the building to be equipped with a comprehensive lighting management system with many modern functionalities. The lighting is divided into different zones, each with specific functionalities.

  • Entrance
The lighting is switched on manually on first entry by means of a switch or a touchscreen. The general lighting then turns on for 100% and only turns off when leaving the premises.
  • Open office
The open office features 'open office functionality.' Per area of a number of workstations, 6 luminaires are controlled by a motion sensor. When movement is detected, the luminaires turn on for 100%. The surrounding areas turn on for 30% if no movement is detected. This functionality realises energy savings but also provides a comfortable feeling for those at work.
  • Corridors
A corridor function has been implemented in the corridor areas. This means that the lighting in the corridor does not switch off if movement is still detected in an adjacent room. Thus, the user never enters a dark corridor when entering it from an adjacent room.
  • Other zones
The toilets, Focus Booths, security areas and print areas also have specific programming, tailored to zone use and security.
  • Outdoor lighting
The outdoor lighting is switched by means of a light sensor and can also be overridden by central control.

Sun protection

The blinds can be controlled locally and centrally. To prevent damage, the blinds are automatically raised when it rains or is windy.

Visualisation

For the control and monitoring of lighting, blinds and emergency lighting, Helvar realised a web-based visualisation. Using floor plans, all (emergency) lighting is visually displayed and each room can be individually controlled and monitored. The following information can be read from the luminaires: error messages, missing/faulty luminaires, burning hours and energy consumption.
Also, the emergency lighting is automatically logged by the same system and the report is sent via email to the administrator.

Integration

In the meeting rooms, a direct link via ASCII protocol was made between the Helvar system and Crestron's AV system so that there is one control for the entire room. As a result, the AV system controls the pre-programmed scenes of lighting and blinds
