Shell building C30

Renovation project

The Shell building C30 in The Hague recently underwent a large-scale renovation. The royal national monument, originally built in 1917 and covering 25,000 m2, has been completely renovated to meet current standards. In August 2022, C30 achieved LEED Platinum certification, a first for a monumental building of this size.

On behalf of Kuijpers, responsible for all technical installations in the building, we supplied the lighting management system. The system consists of 51 routers controlling 2,500 luminaires, half of which are Tunable White luminaires.

Smart lighting

The offices are equipped with luminaires for direct and indirect lighting. The indirect lighting is Tunable White and is controlled via Light over Time. This gives the luminaires a daylight cycle in which the colour temperature and intensity of the light change throughout the day. Built into the luminaires are our 315 mini multi-sensors that control the luminaires based on daylight and motion.

Time control is used for the traffic areas and corridors. If these areas are switched off at a certain time, but someone is still present in an adjacent room, the lighting remains on to avoid users having to walk through a dark building.

In 50 rooms, mainly meeting rooms, 7-inch touchscreens were installed with Shell-style visualisation. Via these touchscreens, the lighting in the room can be controlled using scenes and lighting groups. The lighting can also be controlled centrally via a 21-inch touchscreen.

Integration

The lighting management system is integrated with the building management system, so the signal from the lighting sensors is also transmitted to the climate control system. In the indoor garden, the RGB luminaires are controlled via DMX using our 920 routers.

The building will also be equipped with Helvar Insights. Through Insights, data from the lighting management system is made available in a cloud environment. This cloud environment provides insight into the use of the building and the status of the lighting management system and automatically sends notification in case of problems.
