A unique wireless self-learning light management system
ActiveAhead® is a unique wireless system. No programming is required - the system learns itself. The system is built by Nodes that connect via Bluetooth Low Energy and together form a mesh network. Everything the system learns is shared with luminaires in the surrounding area. As a result, the system predicts where light is needed. And saves energy, effort and costs.
Optimal energy efficiency
Besides predicting when and where the light should be on, it automatically dims lighting based on space usage.
Simple installation
Fix the luminaires in the right place and switch on the mains power. No control cables are required, nor does the system need to be configured.
Self-learning
Thanks to the smart algorithm, the system keeps learning constantly and it works immediately after installation. This ensures the right light for every moment.
Flexible and scalable
ActiveAhead can already be applied in a single room but also in an entire building. It is a low-power Bluetooth mesh network that consumes little energy and has no single points of failure.
Installation of the system is simple. Control cables are not required, which is certainly advantageous in renovation projects. After installation, the system works immediately. Further fine-tuning can be done via a mobile app.
ActiveAhead can also be linked to Helvar Insights.

The options
Locally wired & addressable
- One or more DALI LED driver(s)
- An ActiveAhead Node Multisensor or an ActiveAhead Node Advanced
- Possible additional sensor(s) to extend detection
With this, DALI-connected luminaires operate on motion and daylight immediately after installation. They can also be addressed so that groups and scenes can be created. Nodes Advanced that are within 10 metres of each other automatically form a mesh network, meaning that the DALI luminaires connected per Node are also wirelessly connected to other groups.
ActiveAhead Node Advanced
In certain cases, it may be better to apply the ActiveAhead Node Advanced instead of a Node Multisensor. For example, if no sensor is needed or if a different (ActiveAhead or DALI) sensor is desired.
Fully wireless & built-in luminaire
- A Helvar Freedom LED driver
- A ActiveAhead Node Sense or a ActiveAhead Node (possibly in combination with a separate sensor)
With this, the luminaires operate on motion and daylight immediately after installation and can be accessed wirelessly. The luminaires automatically form a mesh network, which means that all luminaires connect to each other wirelessly. This makes for a very reliable network; even if a connection point is missing, the network and thus communication remains intact.
Emergency lighting testing
Helvar's ActiveAhead supports DALI Part 202 autonomous emergency devices. This means that these devices can be connected and tested via ActiveAhead. Test reports can be created and exported. Besides performing function and duration tests, an alarm signal can also be sent to the system to leave the lighting on during an emergency.
The following types of DALI Part 202 autonomous emergency lighting devices can be connected to the ActiveAhead system using a 5609 ActiveAhead Node Advanced:
- Type A: Switched-maintained dimmable
- Type B: Switched-maintained non-dimmable
- Type C: Maintained
- Type D: Non-maintained
Configuration via ActiveAhead app
The system works completely autonomously, so no configuration is necessary. However, the system can be fine-tuned through the ActiveAhead app. Through the app, all kinds of parameters can be adjusted, such as:
- Lighting levels & daylight control
- Timeouts & fade time
- Preset parameters
- Factory settings
- Creating groups
- Security
- Configuring the control panel
Control via ActiveTune app
With the ActiveTune app, you can adjust the lighting in your workplace to suit your personal needs. You can save your favourite light settings so that you have the light you want at every workstation. All you have to do is open the app and scan the QR code or hold your phone against the NFC tag.
Cordless and battery-free operation
The wire- and battery-free control panel allows you to control scenes, switch lights on/off and dim them. Where you want to be able to override automatic lighting values, for example in meeting rooms.
Helvar Insights
An ActiveAhead system can be extended with new products and features at any stage of its lifecycle. Connecting to Helvar Insights is one example. In this case, an ActiveAhead Controller is added that connects nearby ActiveAhead Nodes to the Helvar Insights platform allowing selected services to be used.
